International dance DVD

International DVDs Ron Wilks will be producing a DVD package of the International dance elements of the weekend, as he has done in previous years.

The focus of the video is on the teacher so that less confident dancers can happily join the dancing without risk of being filmed or feeling that they are spoiling the video for others.

"We aim to make this an attractive and interesting souvenir and will highlight all the dances taught at the dance workshops to make it especially useful as an aide-mémoire for teachers to recall the dances."

Marius & Maria Ursu

Marius Maria

Marius comes from Prigor, a village in Banat, Romania and by the age of eight was a member of the elementary school dance group of Prigor. Since 1990, he has been the choreographer of the folk ensemble "Doina Timisului" of The Students' Cultural Club in Timisoara, which is currently considered by experts to be one of the best folk groups in the country.

Maria, his wife, comes from Arad in Romania and has danced with Marius since 1990. They have both participated in over 100 seminars and festivals held in more than 25 countries spanning 5 continents.

This will be their third visit to the UK. The first was in London in 2013 and, more recently, the SIFD Summer School in Swansea in 2015. They have introduced many popular Romanian dances.  All sessions will be "non-partner" except Sunday afternoon.

Esther Willems

Esther Willems Esther welcomes both experienced and less experienced dancers! She challenges the experienced dancers to dance the steps in the right style.

She will teach dances from all the regions in Bulgaria: Shopluk, Severniyashko, Pirin, East -Trace and West-Trace, Strandzha, Rodopi, and Dobrudzha.

She believes that it is important for dancers to move with a real feeling of the dance. Folklore dance material is very suitable to consciously deal with one's personal body movement possibilities, making dancing both a physical as well as an emotional experience.

Jill Bransby

Jill Bransby

Jill will be leading the Saturday Night International Dance and teaching workshops for dancers who are less familiar with the international side of the festival called "Easy International" on both Saturday and Sunday mornings.

She will concentrate on steps, rhythms, styles and patterns found in a variety of dances from many countries.  The dances will be at a variable speed, some slow and gentle, while others may be faster. They will not be too complicated - the idea is they should be easy and fun and satisfying to dance.  Social dancers are particularly welcome!

Jill has been dancing "with the world" for a long time.  As a teacher of International folk dance she is well known for her enthusiasm and energy, especially at her local club which she founded 40 years ago.

She is delighted to participate in the Festival as, in past years, she helped to organise it, called at dances, taught workshops, played music and also came as a carefree punter.
